dc.descriptionThe worship of Tara became popular as early as the 5th-6th cent. A.D. Hsuan Tsang in the 7th cent. saw many Tara images in northern India. This goddess assumes innumerable forms and is usually represented with a lotus since she is believed to have originated from a lotus in the waters of a lake formed by a tear of Avalokitesvara.
