Abstract

View of the front and part of the curved side of the Jubilee Building that housed Perth's Museum and Public Library. It is a three storey brick structure, with distinctive features such as arched openings and horizontal bands highlighted by pale stone. The building was designed in the Romanesque style as seen in the arched openings, the entrance façade and cloister veranda. It is set off from the street by picket fences and there is a line of posts across the entrance path. The library, originally known as the Victoria Public Library moved into the Jubilee Building on its completion in 1897. By 1904 it was re-named the Public Library of Western Australia and in 1955 it became the State Library of Western Australia. Show more
