The Waterside Workers Gazette was first published, as a national journal, in 1903. Weekly at first, the Gazette was generally published at varying intervals, depending on circumstances, until 1914. Billy Hughes wrote and produced most of the journal himself. It carried information and reports on arbitration, disputes, conferences and rule changes, as well as articles about the hardship of wharf labourers' lives.
