dc.descriptionsome say such scenes represent the New Year's celebrations, when "sacred marriage" rites were performed to ensure fertility of the soil. Telloh plaque, partly mythological, shows a naked celebrant ofering libation to the goddess of the mountain. Al-'Ubaid plaque shows human-headed bull attacked by a lion-headed eagle, typical of four types of figures (grouped in pairs) - man and bull, eagle & lion - who play major roles in this art.
