Photo reads: Fanning Island, April 1956. English Harbour area. Selecting seed nuts for re-planting. After selection from parent palms, the "Fanning Island" coconut must be screened for "takkatakka" or dehydration from natural causes. A coconut developed during normal rain will tend to dry out on the palm during drought. This makes first class copra, at no cost, but will not germinate for seedlings. Shrinkage on copra from this screening was only 17.3% as against normal 33% for F.I. and 55% for New Guinea.
