Abstract

Description

Thought by Cumont (see Andre Godard, The Art of Iran, translated by Michael Heron, New York, F.A. Praeger, 1965, p. 162) to represent Queen Musa, a beautiful Roman slave presented by Augustus to the Parthian King Phraates IV (37-2 BC), whose wife she became. A Greek inscription from the Parthian period gives the name of the artist, "Antiochus, son of Dryas". Note turreted Achaemenian crown.
