Polished sandstone, 13 feet high, with a diameter of 2'6" at the base, When complete, the height muse have been 56', It was made out of one piece of stone, Now broken into several pieces, Carries the engraved words of Asoka: "Thus the Beloved of the Gods proclaims: the Religion must not be divided, The monk or nun who breaks this unity shall receive white garments and must live outside the Community, This edict must be announced in the orders of monks and in the orders of nuns,"
