Lounge in the Beach Hotel, corner of Frederick and Ridge Streets, Merewether, New South Wales
|Collections||Tooth & Company Limited|
|Date created:||Between 1941 and June 1942|
View of six round tables with arm chairs and a bench along one wall. The room has veneer wall panelling, a carpet in a bold swirling design, a wall fan and a one bulb light on the ceiling. Veneered doors, some with curtained glass open onto the lounge. The furniture is of timber construction with vinyl-covered padded seats and backs on the chairs. Two flower arrangements decorate the room. The Beach Hotel was purchased by Tooth & Company in March 1921. On completion of rebuilding in 1941 the hotel was a two storeyed brick structure with a fully tiled ground floor exterior and a tile roof. The architectural style is known as P. & O. Ship Style because of its similarities to ocean liner forms.
