In all cases, 1 : 1 co-crystals of HHTP and tetraalkylammonium·anion salts are obtained, which have a layered 2D structure. When HSO₄⁻ was used as anion, an unprecedented methylation reaction was observed giving crystals containing the methylsulfate anion (MeOSO₃⁻).© The Royal Society of Chemistry 2016Anion-templated 2D frameworks from hexahydroxytriphenylene201610.1039/C6CE00297H
