Frederic, LouisPhotographer: Arthur Llewellyn Basham2019-10-152019-10-151959IM-942http://hdl.handle.net/1885/176778This carving is probably a portrait. It is one of several carvings of kings and queens decorating this ratha. The Dharmaraja Ratha is the largest of the five. It consists of a sanctuary of 3 storeys, bordered by miniature buildings and surmounted by an octagonal dome. These rathas may have been experimental, made as architects' models for temples. This would explain the diversity of the models, probably submitted for royal approval.35mmmounted transparencyb&wimage/tiffen-AUPallava-- Mahabalipuram (Mamallapuram) - Pallavaarchitecturestone sculpturebook scanDharmaraja Ratha2019-10-15This item is provided for research purposes.
