Algebraic solutions of the model together with numerical simulations are employed to fit model parameters consistent with digital recordings of individual stromatolite laminae. Numerical values for model parameters, related to lateral growth, vertical growth and surface diffusion, provide a set of indices which may prove useful for classifying different stromatolites. Keywords: Algebra; Computer simulation; Diffusion; Interfaces (materials); Mathematical models; Random processes; Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation; Morphometry; Stromatolite laminae; LaminatesDeterministic KPZ model for stromatolite laminae200010.1016/S0378-4371(00)00077-72015-12-12
