Several factors have combined to elevate the issue, including the message from the Stern Review that climate change is a risk to future economic growth, firmer science on climate change and growing realisation of grave risks from climate change. Al Gore's movie, An Inconvenient Truth, has undoubtedly played a role to elevate climate change in the public perception, and the ongoing drought has given immediacy to environmental issues generally.
