This chapter presents a science communication analysis of how queer characters, especially scientists, are represented in science-themed fiction. The chapter discusses the inherent ambiguity in interpreting characters’ gender, sexuality, and sex characteristics. It reflects on how a queer audience’s interpretations of such representations can grant unique insights that science communicators should take seriously to more fully understand how people process fiction media.enQueer characters in science-themed fiction2023-04-28105004252080
