Chifley Library Building serves staff and students in the Faculties of Arts, Asian Studies, Economics and Science. Although its collection represents only a very small proportion of the total stock of the ANU Library system, it is viewed by its users as a significant component of the University's library service. During 1979, 39 percent of all loans from the Chifley Library building were reported to be from Short Loan. In the same period, academic staff submitted 793 lists of items for inclusion in Short Loan.
