A method for increasing hyperfine coherence times was demonstrated by the application of a specific external magnetic field. The magnitude and direction of the applied magnetic field was such that the transition's linear Zeeman shift about this field was zero. Results show that a phase memory time of 82 ms can be achieved for Pr3+:Y2SiO5 by using an external magnetic field to minimize the transition sensitivity to magnetic field fluctuations. Keywords: Bragg cells; Doping (additives); Dye lasers; Electron transitions; Ground state; Hamiltonians; Heterodyning; Laser tuning; Magnetic field effects; Matrix algebra; Optical pumping; Praseodymium; Superconducting magnets; Tensors; Yttrium compounds; OpticalMethod of Extending Hyperfine coherence Times in Pr3+:Y2SiO520042015-12-11
