ANU Instructional Resources Unit (1975-1996)Speaker: Benjamin Klaas Selinger (1939-)Speaker: Douglas John Whalan (1929-1997)2025-02-062025-02-061984https://hdl.handle.net/1885/733734763Dr Ben Selinger is concerned at the diametrically opposed ways in which science deals with science and how the courts deal with science. While not advocating basic changes in the court system he feels that scientific peers before it is presented to a lay court. Dr Selinger has been interested in the scientific aspects of law courts for some time and the Chamberlain trial has presented an opportunity to air his views. He has grave doubts about the methods used by the courts to evaluate such "well presented but erroneous" science. -- Introduction by Dr Doug Whalan. -- Recorded at University House, 19 April 1984.00:49:44sound tape reelspoken wordaudio/mpegaudio/waven-AULectureScience in the witness box: ANU Convocation luncheon address by Dr Ben Selinger, recorded 19 April 1984This audio recording is provided for research purposes only and must not be reproduced without the prior permission of the Archives Program, Australian National University
