The two sisters lived there during 1924-1929 when their father, Sir John Henry Butters, was Chairman of the Federal Capital Commission and the Staff Centre was Canberra House. The Butters family's more recent association with the University was in connection with the preparation of the entry about the life and work of Sir John for inclusion in the Australia Dictionary of Biography. The family made available to Dr GJR Linge, Professorial Fellow in the Department of Human Geography, RSPacS, several of Sir John's papers. Recently, the Butters sisters were taken to lunch by Dr Linge and Professor RA Gollan, Chairman of the Governing Body of the Centre.2 Photos6cm x 8cmPhotographb&wimage/tiffen-AUVisitorsProfessor RA Gollan, Mrs PM Tolson, Mrs MG Ward and Dr GJR Linge, discussing recent changes around the Staff Centre2021-02-05This item is provided for research purposes.
