However, Tuvalu has remarkably good socioeconomic indicators by Pacific developing economy standards: poverty is largely non-existent, life expectancy (at 70 years) is high, adult literacy is near universal, and school enrolments are among the highest in the region. Tuvalu has also had a strong democratic tradition.
