The style of the ornamentation is less influenced by Hindu characteristicsperhaps the Hindus were already more familiar with Arab writing and designs. As at the tomb of Iltutmish's son, the ornamentation is purely Islamic. The quoins of the uprights which support the arches are decorated with columns, a feature which persists later on, under the Mughal dynasties, in India. Pleasant patterns of Tughra writing and Kufic characters account for the bulk of the ornamentation.35mmbook scanMounted transparencyb&wimage/tiffen-AUDelhi Sultanatearchitecturearchitectural ornamentPre-Mughal: Quwwatul-Islam, Detail of the Wings2019-11-06This item is provided for research purposes.
