Strommenger, EvaPhotographer: Arthur Llewellyn Basham2020-02-062020-02-061964WA-56http://hdl.handle.net/1885/201437This warrior, dressed in helmet & cloak of skin and armed with axe and throwing-stick, probably belonged to a frieze. He is identical with the soldiers on the Stele of Victory and "Standard of Ur". This inlay-plaque seems to have been incrusted, but only the hollowed-out areas remain as evidence. -- h : 9.9 cm (Louvre).35mmslideb&wen-AUMesopotamia : Eridu-'Ubaid period, Early Sumerian period, Fara-Ur I period, Imperial Akkadian periodmosaic & inlaybook scanMari (Fara-Ur I period) : Warrior, c. 2900-2460 BC, shell inlay2020-02-06This image is provided for research purposes only and must not be reproduced without the prior permission of the Archives Program, Australian National University.
