Abstract

In this paper the concepts of the Frequency Diverse Array and the Waveform-Diversity MIMO radar systems are combined. When the elements of an Electronically Steered Array transmit a number of pseudo-noise codes at slightly different carrier frequencies simultaneously, the coherent summation of the codes originates a waveform whose shape changes in both angle and range. In fact, the MIMO technique provides the angle-changing characteristic, whilst the FDA technique contributes to a range-changing propagating waveform. Therefore, this technique allows to associate a waveform to each point of the range/angle of the space, with the possibility of recovering this information at the receiver after appropriate processing.
