Abstract

We do not know the date on the Christian calendar, but some time after the beginning of 1791 Warreweer, a woman of the Wangal clan and Eora people, went into labour at the rownship of Sydney Cove. For Warrcwecr, such chronology was irrelevant, and she probably saw it as some winters after hec brother Bennelong was kidnapped from his clan. This had occurred during a November 1789 meeting when his people befriended and danced with some of the British visitors. The Wangal clan owned and occupied the area around the present Balmain and its surrounds-the inner-west of today's real estate advertisements.
