This is a commissioned essay to accompany CD recordings (a CD liner note) of rare and largely unknown works of Russian composer, Sergei Rachmaninoff. The life and music of Rachmaninoff is my speciality area. The recordings were published internationally by Decca. The recording also including Vladimir Ashkenazy's performance of a short piano piece discovered as a manuscript by me in the Library of Congress.en_AU
