Cultural advice

The Australian National University acknowledges, celebrates and pays our respects to the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people of the Canberra region and to all First Nations Australians on whose traditional lands we meet and work, and whose cultures are among the oldest continuing cultures in human history.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are advised that ANU Library collections may include images, names, voices, and other representations of deceased persons.

Material in the collection may contain terms, language or views that reflect the period in which the item was created and may be considered inappropriate today.

In the 19th and 20th centuries, Australian newspapers contained a huge array of content. In fact, newspapers and periodicals were the main source of fiction for Australian readers for much of that time. Until recently, thousands of works of fiction were locked away in archives and little was known about the stories published in Australias newspapers. Now for the first time, we can explore this fiction through To Be Continued: The Australian Newspaper Fiction Database, an interactive database of more than 40,000 works of fiction sourced from the National Library of Australias Trove collection of digitised newspapers.
