Abstract

The large number of bibliographies, indexes, catalogues and guides to source material which has appeared over the last thirty years is evidence of the volume and diversity of the documentation available. It is also an acknowledgement of the increasing complexity of literature surveys in any given subject. Yet, the benefits to be derived from the current proliferation of finding aids are limited by the scarcity of guides to the reference works themselves. (First paragraph of Introduction). Show more
