Abstract
This volume emerges from a scintillating panel held as part of the meetings of the Association for Social Anthropology in Oceania in Santa Cruz and Alexandria. There was an extraordinary polyphony of voices in the papers presented at Santa Cruz in February 2009 and that polyphony, not without harmony, has been sustained in this volume. I was intrigued and impressed that the co-organizers and now co-editors, Marcellin Abong and Marc Tabani, agreed to disagree about the central concept: cargo cults.
