The book of Cabolek : a critical edition with introduction, translation and notes, a contribution to the study of the Javanese mystical tradition.
Abstract
The purpose of this thesis has been to give a
critical edition of a Javanese text - the Serat
Cabolek - together with an Introduction, an English
translation of the text, Notes and Variae Lectiones.
The original version of the Serat Cabolek, which we will be discussing in the Introduction, was composed
towards the end of the eighteenth century by Kyai
Yasadipura I, a poet laureat of the early Surakarta
kingdom. Amongst the Javanese, the large number of
works by Yasadipura I are still well-known and are
widely read.
