Abstract

Broken Dreams is the story of a typical Australian family whose normal, happy life is shattered by the tragic news that Alan, the husband, has died suddenly and totally unexpectedly. His widow, Kathy, is left with three children, Ellie, Ben and Daniel. Her realisation that Alan is gone, her experience at the Social Security office and the realisation that despite the existence of an insurance policy, they will have to sell up and leave their home; all bring home the despair that the family feels. Moving into a home unit only sees more problems as the children face the difficulty of a new school and Kathy faces the reality of trying to juggle work and family duties. Sad though these situations are, the tragedy is that they were unavoidable. -- "Broken Dreams" is a video which sharply and dramatically focuses attention on the effects of the premature death of the breadwinner in a family.
