Abstract

There has long been a dearth of good Macedonian dictionaries. For a long time the Macedonian-Serbocroatian dictionary compiled in the 1960s was the only serious Macedonian dictionary. The situation improved with the publication of a Macedonian-Polish dictionary and the Routledge Macedonian-English Dictionary, which was compiled at the ANU. Now we have a very large (hence the title "Great German-Macedonian Dictionary") compiled by the husband-and-wife team Roland Schmieger and Nina Dimitrova-Schmieger, combining a German native speaker and a native speaker of Macedonian. The dictionary is extremely good - the dictionary includes practically the entire German lexicon and the lexemes from all registers have been rendered with great felicity in the appropriate Macedonian style.
