Abstract
Guided waves in left-handed slab waveguides are described. It is demonstrated that a number of exotic properties of such waves, including the absence of fundamental modes and the sign-varying energy flux exist. The existence of the fundamentally different classes of guided waves with a vortex-type internal structure is predicted.
