Abstract

The Macedonian Standard Language (MSL) is the official language of the Republic of Macedonia, which was established after World War II in this historic region of Vardar Macedonia. The MSL was codified as part of the program to establish an autonomous republic within a federal Yugoslavia after World War II. The process of standardization can be traced back at least to Krste P. Misirkov's book, 'Za makedonckite raboti' (1903), while the prehistory of codification reaches back to the nineteenth century.
