Abstract
Although much has been written about the traditional use of plants by the central Australian Aborigines, most of it is scattered throughout the literature and it is often rather fragmentary. The role of fire in manipulating these plant resources has not been much recorded and its importance has generally been underestimated. It has been my aim in this thesis to not only draw together all the published information but to also put forward new information obtained by myself and other researchers.
