Abstract
This essay examines some legal elements of the use of force under the sharia popularly known as an armed djihad (armed struggle), including and focusing on actions that may result in environmental damage and harm to non-human sentient beings. While a comprehensive examination of djihad is beyond the scope of this essay, there is a gap in the sharia literature, on aspects of animal cruelty and ecological effects of war, aspects which are broadly examined here.
