Some demographic and sociological factors relating to the workforce participation of married women in Australia
Abstract
The rapid increase in the number and proportion of
working wives, not only in Australia, but in all highly
industrialised countries, is a phenomenon which has important
economic, social, and probably political, consequences. The
future growth of the Australian economy depends largely on the
availability of manpower, and at a time when migrants - particularly
skilled migrants - are becoming increasingly hard to attract to
Australia, and to hold here, the importance of married women to the
growth of the workforce has been widely recognized.
