Wandering-Absorption Theory: the challenges between theory and practice in the context of Iran

Abstract

This article is published in persian. It aims to question the applicability of the mainstream modern and western sociological theories for understanding contemporary socio-historical changes in the context of Iran as a third world (so-called developing) society. The inadequency of classical sociological theories of social changes, modern and critical theories and development theorties are discussed. A brief review of recent challenges and transplantations between "imported sences of modernity" and "social traditions" requires theories able to conceptualize the cultural "wandering procedures" between modernity and tradition, on the one hand, and "absorption procedures" of society in the processes of globalization on the other hand. The relation between these two internal and external procedures are required to be theorized as well. Show more
