Abstract

Translation of the original in English: Leonardo Garc�a Jaramillo and Mar�a Graciela Otoya Diehn. Published for the first time in Spanish thanks to the permission of Thomas Pogge. This essay originally appeared in German and was part of the book John Rawls (Munich: Verlag CH Beck, 1994). It was translated into English and published in: HS Richardson - PJ Weithman (eds.) The Philosophy of Rawls (New York: Garland Press, 1999, vol. 1). For the book John Rawls: His Life and Theory of Justice (Oxford University Press, 2007) the English text was revised again and expanded thanks to Mardy Rawls, who updated it with new information. This translation was made from the latest version in English.
