Abstract

In the past decade the Australian community has suffered from a series of major natural disasters, which include Cyclone Althea (1971), the Brisbane floods (1974) and Cyclone Tracy (1974). Such unpredictable and infrequent events have increased society's awareness of the impact of natural hazards on the well-being of the community.
