Abstract
Almost all of Queensland's film production for the 1890s has survived, and it offers a rare opportunity to see Australia's colonial era come vividly to life. -- The first films shown in Queensland -- The world's first ethnographic field motion pictures (1898) -- The world's first government film: scenes of troops departing for the Boer War, Wheat harvesting on the darling Downs, 'Kanaka' island labour on cane farms -- A 'phantom' tram ride through Brisbane -- Lord Kitchener's visit to Brisbane.
