Abstract

The application of T-duality to toroidal orbifold string backgrounds can be understood naturally in terms of subjective submersions, which provide a convenient paradigm in which to explore certain structural features of a torus, or toroidal orbifold. The introduction of an orbifold group elicits a focus on equivariant structures. This altered focus will lead us to reformulate T-duality in terms of groups, leading to an understanding of how T-duality changes the underlying equivariant structures of a toroidal orbifold. Defining T-duality with respect to submersions and groups will provide a more general framework over which to define the workable data for global, non-trivial objects, allowing a more natural exploration of T-duality applied to string theories defined over backgrounds taking the form of toroidal orbifolds.
