Abstract

This chapter examines the gendered dimensions of both descriptive (the numbers) and substantive (the issues) representation by looking at the following: - The women's representation in parliament historically and today; - The role of political parties and electoral systems in enabling or constraining the election of women; - Feminist activism inside and outside political parties; - Women's representation as ministers, prime ministers and premiers; - How women represent women in parliament and policy.
