The Australian National University acknowledges, celebrates and pays our respects to the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people of the Canberra region and to all First Nations Australians on whose traditional lands we meet and work, and whose cultures are among the oldest continuing cultures in human history.

Abstract

This paper discusses the benefits of open access and how institutional repositories can assist open access. An analysis of the success and failures of advocacy programs undertaken at universities world-wide is given. Advocacy of the ANU repository Demetrius is placed within these programs and recommendations are made to increase awareness and use of the ANU repository.
