Stand structure and tree growth in uneven-aged spotted gum (Corymbia maculata) forests: some implications for management.

Bauhus, Juergen; McElhinny, Chris; Alcorn, Philip

The current trend towards more naturalness and increased protection of biodiversity at the level of forest stands requires the management of structurally diverse forests. In this study we investigated the consequences of single-tree harvesting in mixed-species eucalypt forests on stand structure and tree growth. Data from continuous inventory plots indicated that single-tree selection without additional tending over a period of 40 years leads to the accumulation of high basal areas. Although...[Show more]
