Using electron paramagnetic resonance we identify point defects in CdS nanocrystals. A spectrum consistent with Cd vacancies in distorted sites is observed, and evidence for S vacancies is presented. Light-induced paramagnetic states attributed to defects are also detected in PbS nanocrystals.
