Using magnetic forces to convey state information: An exploration of a haptic technology

Tsimeris, Jessica; Gedeon, Tamas (Tom); Broughton, Michael

Using magnetic forces to provide haptic information is an area that remains largely unexplored and provides exciting opportunities for interaction that may not otherwise be possible. We present several example applications that illustrate how this technology is well suited to remote site collaboration techniques, conveying state information and simulating flows and turbulence. Furthermore, we present the results of our preliminary user study which has indicated that magnetic forces can convey...[Show more]
