High-resolution optical sampling of 640-Gb/s signals using highly nonlinear chalcogenide waveguides

Description

We demonstrate a photonic-chip-based optical sampling system with temporal resolution <500-fs, making use of four-wave mixing in a 7-cm chalcogenide planar waveguide. We use such a short, dispersion-shifted waveguide with ultrahigh nonlinearity (104/W/km) to monitor a 640-Gb/s datastream.
