Description
The adsorption of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) to silica in the presence of sodium salicylate has been investigated using atomic force microscopy, optical reflectometry, and a quartz crystal micro balance. Salicylate is found to have a dramatic influence on surface adsorption in terms of the kinetics, surface excess, structure of adsorbed aggregates and the mechanical rigidity of the adsorbed film. This is consistent with the bulk solution behavior of more concentrated CTAB -...[Show more]
