Monte Carlo Model of Positron Transport in Water: Track Structures Based on Atomic and Molecular Scattering Data for Positrons

Garcia, Gustavo; Petrovic, Z Lj; White, Ronald Douglas; Buckman, Stephen

Description

This paper is aimed at understanding, and visualizing, the fate of the high-energy positrons in the body as they lose energy and thermalize through collisions before annihilating. It provides information on the spatial extent of their transport from the site of emission and the potential damage that can be caused along these tracks. It has ramifications for positron emission tomography and for charged particle dosimetry in general.
