In 2004 the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and a consortium of other State and Federal agency envisioned a network for the sharing of information resources. The network was to provide for the search, discovery and acquisition of restricted and non-restricted information resources. Custodians, organizations the expose information resources, must maintain control of the information resources they provide to the network.
