This study examines adult mortality (15-59 years) in Matlab using data from the Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS) of the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh. Levels and trends of adult mortality were ascertained by life table techniques using HDSS reports, while detailed analyses were undertaken of two cohorts (a July 1982 cohort and a January 1996 cohort), each followed for three years.
