Saloon bar in the Clare Castle Hotel, corner of William and Port Stephens Streets, Raymond Terrace, New South Wales
|Collections||Tooth & Company Limited|
|Date created:||Between 1941 and June 1942|
View of metal stools along a linoleum-topped bar faced with staggered square and rectangular tiles, which also feature on the walls. There is a fluted pattern on the wall trim and the cornices and the room is lit by fountain shaped ceiling lights. The shelves are mirror-backed, flooring is linoleum in a checkerboard design and fixtures are chrome-plated. Other details include a wall clock and a cash register. The Clare Castle Hotel was purchased by Tooth & Company in March 1921 and sold in the early 1980s. On completion of rebuilding at some date between 1941 and June 1942 the hotel was a two storeyed brick structure with a fully tiled ground floor exterior and a tile roof. The architectural style of the interior is known as P. & O. Ship Style because of its similarities to ocean liner forms.
